Supples Gallery is proud to present Unsettled Journeys, a compelling group exhibition spotlighting six Myanmar artists currently living in Thailand. Curated by Mike Thukha Kyaw, the exhibition brings together works shaped by memory, loss, resilience — and ultimately, hope.

Through painting, drawing, and visual storytelling, these artists transform personal and collective grief into quiet acts of resistance. Their works invite viewers into a world marked by displacement, yet rooted in the enduring power of the human spirit. When words fall short, art continues to speak.

The title Unsettled Journeys captures the duality at the heart of this exhibition: the physical experience of exile and the emotional turbulence it carries. Yet, it also gestures toward persistence — the drive to create, to hold on to memory and meaning, and to find beauty even when the ground beneath is uncertain.

This exhibition is not only about leaving — it’s also about staying connected. It honors the artists’ courage and invites audiences to listen deeply to stories told through image and form.

Unsettled Journeys features two returning artists from Supples Gallery’s April 2025 showcase, Pai Min Htet and Ko Htike, alongside four new artists — Ko Pyae, Toe Wai, Wai Yan Phyo, and Oscar.

Curatorial Statement

In times of political upheaval and personal loss, art becomes more than expression — it becomes survival. Unsettled Journeys brings together six Myanmar artists who have been forced to leave their homeland amid military crackdowns, forced conscription, and the collapse of civil liberties. Now living in Thailand, these artists continue to create — not in spite of displacement, but through it. Their work carries the weight of what was left behind: family, community, language, and home. Yet, within this loss is also resilience — a quiet, persistent determination to remember, to resist, and to remain human in the face of dehumanizing circumstances.

Oil on canvas

This exhibition traverses a landscape of memory, longing, and adaptation. Some pieces offer fleeting glimpses of everyday life: ferry rides, morning light, a crowded street. Others delve into darker territories — grief, fear, and the invisible scars of trauma. Each work is deeply personal, yet together they form a collective portrait of a people in motion — physically, emotionally, and artistically.

The title, Unsettled Journeys, reflects this duality: the physical reality of exile and the inner turbulence it brings. But it also gestures toward something enduring — a will to continue, to find meaning, to make beauty even when the ground is unsteady. This is not just an exhibition about leaving. It is also about holding on — to memory, to dignity, and to the creative spark that refuses to be extinguished. It is a tribute to the artists’ courage, and an invitation for all of us to listen closely to what art can reveal when words fall short. In honoring these works, we bear witness to more than displacement; we recognize the profound strength of those who create through sorrow, and who continue, even now, to shape the future with their hands.
