Supples Gallery presents Talking Hands, a solo exhibition by Aye Ko, on view from 10 October to 27 December 2026.
The exhibition brings together 13 new paintings created specifically for this presentation. Across the works, hands, figures, colour, and fragmented form build a visual language that resists fixed meaning. A palm, a raised arm, a reaching gesture: each offers a point of entry, yet as the eye moves across the canvas, the familiar begins to shift. The works stay open, shaped by gesture and the space between things.

Are the hands talking? Are the colours talking? Are the figures talking?
Talking Hands begins with a question of communication, but not necessarily one that can be answered. The hands appear as gestures within the paintings, alongside figures, colours, and fragments. They may seem familiar for a moment: a sign, a movement, an expression of anger, a scream, or a call for attention. Recognition comes quickly, but so does uncertainty. What seems like a clear gesture becomes harder to identify as the rest of the painting begins to interfere.

These paintings hold the chaos of someone — perhaps one person, perhaps several — without asking the viewer to enter it. The figures, colours, forms, and fragments exist together without settling into a single language. Some elements appear to speak clearly while others interrupt, overlap, or pull the eye elsewhere. The hands are not always the central point, but they continue to raise questions.
Perhaps this uncertainty is part of what the paintings are saying. Something is being expressed, but it remains fragmented, interrupted, and open. Aye Ko’s chaos enters the paintings not as a story to be explained, but as something that continues to speak through the images.
What are they talking about? Who are they talking to? Were they talking to you?
