Left Foot in the Right Shoe brings together Somyot Hananuntasuk and Valio Tchenkov, two artists whose lives and practices move between Thailand and Germany, and whose work reflects the shifts, reversals, and uncertainties that shape both art and daily life.

The exhibition title comes from Valio’s reflection on the nature of both art and life. In line with this, Somyot writes, “Creating art is no different from living life. There are right turns and wrong turns, ups and downs, inside-outs and right-side-ups, moments of excitement and stagnation, mindfulness and madness.” Left Foot in the Right Shoe captures this condition with quiet clarity, reflecting the way art and life unfold through change rather than certainty.

Tchenkov and Somyot have been friends and artistic peers for many years, exhibiting together on numerous occasions. Tchenkov, born in 1966 in Svistov, Bulgaria, lives and works in Munich and was trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia and the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich, where he developed a multidisciplinary practice. Somyot was born in Bangkok in 1949 and has lived and worked in Munich since 1972 while maintaining a studio in Thailand, a dual context that continues to shape his artistic approach.
Presented together, the works in this exhibition speak through different visual languages, yet share a common sensitivity to change and personal experience. The exhibition unfolds in the same way Somyot describes life itself, not as something fixed, but as a process of continual adjustment, discovery, and becoming.
